The Stanton A. Gill Endowed Scholarship was established by the family of Stanton Gill in October 2024, aiming to support students who aspire to a degree and career in Landscape Technology, Environmental Horticulture, or Sustainable Agriculture. This fund was established in memory of Professor Gill.

Professor Stanton Gill, a distinguished entomologist and expert in the landscape and horticulture industries, loved the opportunity to share his enthusiasm for research and education. He dedicated nearly 50 years to the University of Maryland at the Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC). He was an integral part of establishing the Montgomery College Landscape Technology 2-year AA degree program, where he taught courses on advanced fruit production, pest management, greenhouse management, and nursery management.

Impact

With a passion for education, Professor Gill engaged his students through dynamic lectures and never missed a teachable moment. He extended learning beyond the classroom with field trips to nurseries, greenhouse operations, and his cherished orchard, providing students with invaluable practical experience. He was especially devoted to mentoring newcomers to the field, especially those making a major career change, generously sharing his knowledge and guidance. Professor Gill’s commitment to facilitating access to education in horticulture is a legacy he would proudly want to uphold.
