The Wendy F. Turner Memorial Endowment

Fund will support students in mental and emotional duress or in need of social work support. The interest income from the endowment would annually provide funding for crisis management, social work-related support, and suicide prevention. The fund uses would include:
1) paying for mental health counseling when students are in duress and cannot afford mental health counseling on their own;
2) student emergency assistance funds to assist in the de-escalation of the crisis, such as funds for prescriptions if the student cannot otherwise afford them.
3) funds for specific types of assistance for student if dealing with issues such as domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse, etc. Assistance might be temporary housing assistance, a substance abuse program, etc.
4) professional development in crisis management and suicide prevention for Montgomery College counselors and advisors.
5) collaboration with the Montgomery County Crisis Center to support their clients who are Montgomery College students or prospective students.
6) need-based scholarships for students pursuing degrees and careers in the areas of social work, counseling and crisis management. The scholarship could also be awarded as a transfer scholarship for those students in those majors completing their Associate’s Degree and transferring to a four-year college or university in Maryland.
